Mid-March Grind – Max Velocity Phase

Last Wednesday, after training, I found myself reflecting on the irony of time. It moves forward at a steady pace, yet when you pause to observe its passage, it feels fleeting, almost as if it slips away faster than you can grasp.

Now that mid-March has arrived, I feel nothing but gratitude for the progress I’ve made. More than a year ago, I was frustrated by recurring pain that forced me to stop training. That period pushed me to commit to recovery work through isometrics and eccentrics. Over time, those 30-second mini workouts stacked up week after week, and eventually they helped me heal. Looking back, it’s remarkable how consistency in small efforts can lead to lasting results.

With my legs finally cooperating, I am now fully immersed in the max velocity phase of training. Each sprint and drill is designed to prepare me for the SMTFA Championship on June 6–7. At the same time, I am considering joining the WSE in June, which would complete my competition calendar for this year before shifting my focus to the World Masters Games in Kansai, Japan.

Of course, training rarely unfolds exactly as planned. The Olympic Stadium has been buzzing with football matches over the past few days, leaving the track unavailable. Instead of my usual sessions, I turned to uphill sprints and ended up doing acceleration sessions. It wasn’t the scenario I had planned for this week, but I reminded myself that adapting is better than missing training altogether. In fact, those uphill sprints may add an extra layer of strength and resilience to my preparation.

As I move through this phase, I am reminded that progress is not always linear. Sometimes you take two steps back, but those moments can teach or remind you of something important. The thrill and euphoria of top speed are what keep me moving forward with my training. As I continue, every step brings me closer to the starting line in June.
